Life's ups and downs fuel my imagination.
I enjoy writing, reading, and taking photos more than anything. I'm also passionate about exploring underwater environments, hiking to remote regions, baking exotic treats, and hanging out with my three dogs.
I'm an Australian-American writer who has lived and traveled worldwide, but now call Texas home.
I write young adult fantasy and science fiction under H.O. Ward, historical fiction as J. A. Ewing, and photograph wildlife as Janelle Ewing.
No matter which name I use, I love stories that focus on characters. My stories are full of fast-paced adventures, dangers, and mysteries, with just a touch of light romance, all set in wild places. At the heart of each story is the belief that everyone, even those overcoming childhood trauma, deserves love.
Besides writing, I have a deep passion for photography, particularly endangered wildlife. I aim to tell each animal's unique story with every image, capturing their breathtaking beauty and precious habitat. My goal is to educate and inspire people about the wonders of nature through my photos, sparking conversations about conservation and an appreciation for our natural world.
After a successful career in corporate communications, I shifted to pursue my real passion—creative writing. I took classes at prestigious places like Rice University, the University of Houston, and others, honing my craft for two enriching years.
Now, I'm a full-time writer with a part-time management job (hey, a girl's got to eat). I share my home with a lively group: my husband, three rescue dogs, and a community of 150 freshwater fish. I also take care of two occasionally grumpy in-laws.
I'm not just a writer; I craft vibrant stories that combine drama, adventure, and a bit of magic.
I am currently seeking representation for my latest book, “The Last Time Key.”
